Facial Skin Layered Mapping

Part 4.3 – The Bump Maps: The Whisker Map

Before You Begin

Have your work file (SkinFrontSectionWork<NNN>.psd -- <NNN> is the latest version number).  In your work file have only the Bump layer set open and  visible.   Have your model open in A:M.  Have the modeling window open.

Introduction

Whiskers are very easy.

  1. Hide everything and create a new layer outside the Bump layer set above the Backing layer.
  2. Fill it with 50% gray – we’ll call this ‘gray’ layer.
  3. Add another layer above this and fill it with black, set the Blend mode to Dissolve and the Opacity to 12 – we’ll call this dissolve layer.
  4. Add a new layer above this layer, hide bottom gray layer (make sure only the 2 last layers you created are visible) and then merge visible merging the dissolve and new layer.  Well call this new layer the Stubble layer.
  5. Set the Opacity of the Stubble layer to 54% and make the ‘gray’ layer visible.
  6. Make the Guide2 layer visible then select Stubble layer.
  7. Using the Guide2 layer as a guide, draw where stubble should be.
  8. Now invert selection (<shift><ctl>i) and press delete.  This should leave only the area you want whiskers on.
  9. Now merge Stubble and Gray layer and rename Whiskers.
  10. Move to top of Bump layer set.
  11. Save your files.
